FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

01. How often should i paint the exterior of my house?

It depends on a number of factors, primarily your home's exterior finish, your location, and the quality of your last paint job. Wood siding should be repainted every 3-7 years, or stained approximately every 4 years. Aluminum siding can go about 5 years between paint jobs, and stucco 5-6 years.

02. Do i have to paint the ceilings white?

While it is true that white reflects light better than any other color in the color spectrum, it doesn't mean that you have to only use white on your ceilings. In fact, adding color to your ceiling can draw the eye upward and make your room feel and appear larger. Do you have a coffered or barrel vault ceiling or one that has architectural interest? Add color to this "5th wall" to create a look that is stunning.

03. Why is my paint peeling?

Knowing the answer to this question will help you maintain your home's exterior. The most common cause of peeling, not surprisingly, is water. Water vapor that accumulates beneath paint or primer separates these coatings from the surface. This, in turn, leads to cracking. A snowball effect ensues: Water seeps through small cracks, which causes bigger cracks. Peeling paint eventually lets you know that something isn't right.

04. Do i need to prime before painting?

Unless the surface is unfinished or you're switching between types of paint-such as oil based woodwork being covered by latex paint-you don't have to prime before painting again. If the surface is dirty or greasy, clean it thoroughly before painting. If it is glossy, it's a good idea to dull it first with sandpaper or a liquid deglosser. Check with your paint supplier about the right type of primer for the surface you intend to paint.

05. What are the benefits of painting my house?

Studies have shown that painting both interior and exterior walls and trim will increase the overall real estate value of your home. In addition, it enhances curb appeal, which makes the home much more attractive to potential buyers. An exterior paint job will protect building materials and save you from expensive repairs down the road. In fact, a fresh coat of high-quality paint on an exterior surface can decrease the risk of weather related damaged that comes from exposure to harsh and inclement weather conditions. A quality paint job can also help protect the home against unwanted insect infestations. A paint job is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to transform the look and feel of your home. In fact, a new paint job is known in the home improvement industry as the least expensive remodel out there. Depending on the color scheme you choose, you can create an entirely new feel within your interior space. While more neutral tones can be used to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, brighter hues will make the living space feel more vibrant and energetic.
